AOL Instant Messenger and subliminal GOP advertising

I have to use AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) for work — we use it to talk to reporters, editors, etc. Recent versions of AIM started downloading “AIM-bots” basically spam buddies that have some kind of headline in their “away” messages that you can read any time you’re looking at your buddy list.

I recently noticed one called VoteRedorBlue and its away message is “Is OBAMA the Anti-Christ?”

The bots are from a media/tech company called Spleak owned by the Hearst Corporation.

Does anybody else find it disturbing that the tools we use every day have some kind of sensationalist political message?
